Operation of Unit

Previous level

Approximately 100μl of whole blood, serum or plasma are added directly to the patented panel disc containing the liquid diluent and dry reagents. The disc is then placed in the Piccolo. Using centrifugal and capillary forces, the disc mixes and dilutes the reagents and sample. Less than one minute of hands-on time is required to perform the test.

The Piccolo monitors the reagent reactions simultaneously and provides results in a "hard copy" report suitable for the patient file in less than 15 minutes. Data can also be transferred to an LIS. Piccolo self-calibrates with each run. The Piccolo's internal Intelligent Quality Control (iQC) system performs more than 100 quality control checks on each sample, including Q.C. monitoring to ensure chemistry and instrument integrity.

1:  Add Sample 2:  Insert Disc 3:  Read Results
Simply collect 100μl whole blood, serum or plasma, and transfer it to the Piccolo reagent disc.

The single use, disposable disc contains all the reagents and diluent necessary to perform a complete fixed multi-test panel.

Place the disc into the analyzer drawer and enter patient, doctor and operator information.

The Piccolo does the rest.

In less than 15 minutes, results are ready!

Chemical reactions for each test are optically monitored, and analyzed concentrations are calculated using bar-coded information on the reagent disc.

The complete panel of results, normal ranges and other data are printed on a self-adhesive result card, and are ready to be transferred to a patient information system. The Piccolo analyzer will store results for over 140 patients.
